چکیده
In a series of papers, we will develop systematically the basic spectral theory of (self–adjoint) boundary value problems for operators of Dirac type. We begin in this paper with the characterization of (self–adjoint) boundary conditions with optimal regularity, for which we will derive the heat asymptotics and index theorems in subsequent publications. Along with a number of new results, we extend and simplify the proofs of many known theorems. Our point of departure is the simple structure which is displayed by Dirac type operators near the boundary. Thus our proofs are given in an abstract functional analytic setting, generalizing considerably the framework of compact manifolds with boundary. The results of this paper have been announced in [11].

The complete solution to the massive Rarita-Schwinger field equation in anti-de Sitter space is constructed, and used in the AdS/CFT correspondence to calculate the correlators for the boundary conformal field theory. It is found that when no condition is imposed on the field solution, there appear two different boundary conformal field operators, one coupling to a Rarita-Schwinger field and th...

We compute the relation between the Quillen metric and and the canonical metric on the determinant line bundle for a family of elliptic boundary value problems of Dirac-type. To do this we present a general formula relating the ζdeterminant and the canonical determinant for a class of higher-order elliptic boundary value problems.

In this article we show that boundary conditions can be treated as Lagrangian and Hamiltonian primary constraints. Using the Dirac method, we find that boundary conditions are equivalent to an infinite chain of second class constraints which is a new feature in the context of constrained systems. We discuss the Dirac brackets and the reduced phase space structure for different boundary conditio...
متن کاملHalf-Dirichlet problems for Dirac operators in Lipschitz domains
Recall that in the case of the Dirichlet problem for the Laplace operator ∂2 x +∂ 2 y in Ω ⊆ R2, one prescribes the whole trace of a harmonic function in, say, L2(∂Ω). On the other hand, for the Cauchy-Riemann operator ∂x + i∂y, natural boundary problems are obtained by prescribing “half” of the trace of the analytic function in L2(∂Ω). Such half-Dirichlet problems arise when, for example, one ...

We present the details of our embedding proof, which was announced in [DZ1], of the Atiyah-Patodi-Singer index theorem for Dirac operators on manifolds with boundary [APS1]. Introduction The index theorem of Atiyah, Patodi and Singer [APS1, (4.3)] for Dirac operators on manifolds with boundary has played important roles in various problems in geometry, topology as well as mathematical physics. ...
